  • Research Associate

Dr. Sergio Barroso is an ORIQL associate researcher. He completed his clinical fellowship with ORIQL during the second semester of 2015, and due to his special interest in research, he became a formal member of the research team from December 2015. In May 2019, Sergio received a prestigious award for the Best Oral Communication Presentation at the 7th AEA Serod Congress, SANTANDER.

Dr. Barroso trained and qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Spain, in 2013. His base hospital is located in the Canary Islands, where he spent his childhood, and also underwent some training periods in Barcelona, in Dr. Monllau reference knee unit, and Essex (U.K.). Before arriving in Townsville, he spent a full year developing two AOA accredited fellowships in Victoria, Australia, under Dr. Shimmin and Dr. James supervision.

His main field of interest is Sports Medicine, having been a team doctor for several professional soccer and volleyball clubs in Spain. Research has also been an important part of his professional career, and his affiliation to ORIQL is likely to be highly productive for both the Institution and his professional portfolio.
